J01MA12 - Levofloxacin |
Propably not porphyrinogenic |
PNP |
Rationale
Mainly excreted unmetabolized. No CYP-interactions.
Chemical description
S-enantiomer of ofloxacin. Quinolone antibiotic only metabolized to a very small extent (<5%) to desmethyllevofloxacin and levofloxacin N-oxide. No CYP-ineractions observed. To be observed: May interfere with screening tests for porphyrins in urine due to overlap in fluorescence emission at 600 nm. See the racemate ofloxacin: South African list: use with extreme caution only. French list: use Metabolic basis..ref 383: safe Thunell:One observation of safe use. See also: Schoenfelt and Mamet.
