Polycyclic glycopeptide, in greater parts not metabolised. Several references state non- porphyrinogenicity.
Chemical description
Polycyclic glycopeptide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces orientalis, used in severe multiresistent infections. 70-80% of the drug is excreted by the kidneys in unchanged form within 24 hours. EPI-list: safe. South African list: use. French list: use. Australian list: use. Hift et al. Br J. Pharamcol 1990; 29:273-55: no ill effect.
