Rationale
Non-CYP metabolism.
Chemical description
Bidentate ligand which binds iron. Used for treatment of iron excess in thalassemia, and in cases where deferoxamine has given rise to toxic reactions. Excreted in unchanged form, as glucuronide and as iron-ferioprone complex.
