Practically insoluble salt of barium.
Therapeutic characteristics
Barium sulfate is used as a radiographic contrast medium for X-ray examination of the gastrointestinal tract involving single- or double-contrast techniques or computed tomography. Administered orally or as an enema.
Hepatic exposure
Not significant.
Metabolism and pharmacokinetics
Barium sulfate travels unchanged through the gastro intestinal tract.
